TPS6594-Q1: Operation inquiries for PTPS659414F4RWERQ1

Part Number: TPS6594-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA821

Hello team,

My customer designed DRA821 processor board with PTPS659414F4RWERQ1  and P876441A1RQKRQ1.

Input voltage(+4.2V) is supplied to both PMICs, but both PMICs have no output voltage.

  1. Could please provide start-up guide for  the PTPS659414F4RWERQ1? How to debug when there is no output?

  2. Is there any way to check if the PTPS659414F4RWERQ1 NVM is programmed normally?

  3. Is there a way for the customer to write directly the NVM?

Thank you.

JH

  • Hello,

The NVM description can be found here.  Please note in the VCCA settings, section 5.5, that the VCCA monitor is set for 3.3V +/-10%.  Also, in Table 5-8 the VCCA_GRP_SEL is MCU Rail Group.  This means that when the VCCA exceeds the OV, that this will trigger an MCU power error and the device will go to the safe state as described in Table 6-1.

One of the challenges with this power distribution network is that the VIO of the PMIC is provided by a load switch which is turned off in the event of a failure.  This means that VIO would need to be applied from an external source in order to access the PMIC and interrogate the interrupts and the source of the error.

At this time there is no mechanism to check the NVM contents.  Also, the ability to program the PTPS659414F4RWERQ1 is not supported as this is the initial pre-production silicon.  Future silicon versions will support NVM programming.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

    Thanks for your reply.

My customer suspects that the PTPS659414F4RWERQ1 is not programmed in NVM.
Is there any possibility that the product was shipped without NVM program?

    Thank you.

    JH

  • Hello,

No, there is no possibility.  Please ask the customer to apply 3.3V to VCCA and not 4.2V. The device will not power up with 4.2V because it exceeds VCCA OV.

    Thank you,

    Chris
