LP8732-Q1: AGND(pin29) layout pattern

Part Number: LP8732-Q1

Hello Team,

Customer have one question about AGND(pin29) layout.

Seen from the top layer layout in the datasheet, AGND(29pin) is standalone. It is not connected with pin4 or pin19.

Q1. Does customer need to connect AGND(pin29) with pin4,pin19 at top layer?

Q2. What is the advantage to let AGND(pin29) be standalone at top layer?

Thanks,

Yuta Kurimoto

  • Hi Yuta,

The recommendation is not to connect any ground pins to the thermal pad in the middle of the device. However, on the EVM we do have AGND pin 4 connected to it but nothing else.

Connecting the thermal pad to GND pins could result in undesired return current paths in non-ideal layout. Those return currents could swing the GND voltage on the GND pins connected to the thermal pad.

    Best regards,
