BQ25616: Charge Enable Pin Operation

I have used BQ24161B in several designs. It works well, but there is one issue related to the CD_b pin (Chip Disable). This pin does more than just shutdown charging, it actually shuts down the chip as well. If the battery is very low and there is a charging source attached to VBUS, when the CD_b goes high, the system voltage drops as well, which causes the rest of the system to go down.

Now looking at the BQ25616, spec, it seems that the CE_b (Charge Enable) only affects charging. If there is a charging source present and the CE_b is driven high to shut off charging, does this only close the battery FET, while allowing the switcher to continue to provide a constant system voltage?

    You're right. For BQ25616, driving /CE high disables charging to the battery but allows the converter to continue to provide power to the system. The battery FET will not allow current to flow to charge the battery, however it will still allow current to flow from the battery to power the system.
