BQ34Z100-G1: Comms failed on reading two byte registers

Gentlemen,

We have strange issue with BQ34Z100 communications.

It works for the one byte response commands, e.g. SOC() and MaxError() (see figure below):

But perfectly fails for any two-byte response commands (see results of Flags() on the graph below):

Did anyone experience similar issue? What could be reason of the failure?

Hi Andrey,

Are you using an EV2400 or some other device to communicate with your gauge? It looks like there is an issue with what is getting sent from the host since the gauge isn't sending a response.

No, at the moment. It is my driver running on ESP32 SoM. I am planning to use EV2400 as a reference, but according to the reference manual sent frames structure looks correct. I tried different variations, but they always fail on multi-byte transmission.

Hi Andrey,

It sounds like the issue might be within the ESP32 driver. I can't help debug ESP32 code because I am not familiar with the device but I recommend testing your send/receive multi-byte code with a simpler device.

I am inclining to use EV2400 as a reference to verify communications to the BQ34Z100. Potentially, it should highlight discrepancy in the protocol calls or maybe other issues.

I think that's a good idea, debugging communication issues is much quicker when you have a known good source (EV2400) to test with.
