BQ24075: Vin / Vout question

Hi Team,

My customer is surveying our BQ24075, they have one question here:

When the input voltage is lower than 5.5V + VDO (IN-OUT), is the Vout of BQ24075 will lower than 5.5V ?
Is there a charger IC with a fixed output greater than 5V and need to charge 4.2V/500mAh battery, please help to provide your recommendation.

Yes, if the input voltage is lower than 5.5V + VDO the device is not able to provide 5.5V to the output. For all of our linear chargers Vin needs to be larger then Vout(reg) + VDO to regulate at a fixed Vout. For the battery specs provided the BQ24075 is a good option. If your customer requires a charger that can regulate Vout to a larger value than Vin, I recommend considering a switch-mode boost type charger.
