BQ78350-R1A: If use 3200mAh battery cell, can we set high rate to 350mA and low rate to 170mA?

Part Number: BQ78350-R1A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350-R1

Hello Sir:

We are use a battery cell which capacity is 3200mAh in typical.

Can we set high rate to 350mA and low rate to 170mA?

Is it acceptable for CEDV gauge?

Please provide your recommendations for us.

Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Statham,

The currents used should be acceptable for a CEDV gauge.  For good gauging the currents should match the expected load of the system.  From the user guide for the gauge parameter calculator https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/SLUUB45B the recommendation is:

"The first rate should be average typical, and second should be average high for your application. Note that high rate should not be maximum peak current, but rather maximum average sustained rate that can practically occur in the application."

Cell selection may be for high current or long run time with a low current, or in some cases what cells are available. Matching the load to the gauging parameters should give good results with CEDV gauging.  Similar to cell selection comment CEDV is the gauging available in BQ78350-R1 and for the BQ769x0 family of monitors if you don't want to write your own gauging in your MCU.
