BQ4050: Separate battery ground

We had a question about how necessary keeping a separate battery ground (BATT_GND) is on the BQ4050?

As it is now we have to run a relatively long and skinny trace to bring battery ground over to the IC and are wondering if using the regular ground (which has multiple pours, so much better connection) would be fine?

    Nick,

    Are you able to provide a schematic and layout for review. Overall ground is very critical for the device to function properly. We measure current from a differential measurement across SRN/SPR and it is the VSS for the cell measurement. 

    I am curious what you mean by regular ground though...
