TPS2456: TPS2456RHHT

Part Number: TPS2456
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25947

Hi Sir,

We are using TPS2456RHHT in our design. Our requirement is to have redundant power supplies and switching when one supply is absent. Our concern is how the input power supply is selected in case of both present. Also as sharing is supported, then in case of failure of one supply the smooth switching will happen or not.

Please reply soon.

Ramesh Chandra

  • Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for reaching out to us. The TPS2456 pulls the GAT2x pin high when V(INx–OUTx) exceeds 10 mV, and it pulls the pin low when this differential falls below –3 mV (VOUTx is greater than VINx). These thresholds provide 13 mV of hysteresis to help prevent false triggering as shown below.

The input supply, which is 13 mV higher than the another one will be activated when both the inputs are present. In case of failure of one input, smooth switchover will happen. However, may I know the maximum current requirement in your application? There is a recently launched integrated eFuse, TPS25947. This device can support up to 5.5 A of load current. Please look into this device and let us know your feedback.
