Hello, Could you please recommend parts for TEC driver circuit. The TEC specs are below -

Hello,

Depending on how much cooling/heating you need, this will affect the power output necessary, specifically current output for your TEC driver circuit. On the power amplifier side we have the LMH6526 which will give a output current of 600mA. However, the TEC element you are using would require using either buck-boost converter or most likely a motor driver. For additional resources, here are some reference designs on driving a Thermoelectric/Peltier Module (TEC): link1, link2, and link3. I believe the DRV8873 will work for your application, but I am forwarding this thread from amplifier team to our motor driver group. They will help you pinpoint the most optimal device for the TEC element.

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for your response. DRV8873 and DRV8874 seem to be ideal candidates for driving TEC element. Can we use DAC9881 to send variable voltage to DRV8873/8874 to regulate the current output ? Is it possible ?

Raj,

The input to the DRV8873/4 is PWM. You would want to generate a PWM signal (0-100% duty cycle) from the FPGA and then the DAC is not necessary.

What is the resolution of the output current of DRV8873/8874 ?

Raj,

It will depend on the resolution of the incoming PWM coming from FPGA or other source. From the driver side, the only concern would be passing very low duty cycle or high duty cycle where the slew rate of the driver will start to effect the minimum "on" time (for low duty cycles) and the minimum "off" time for high duty cycles.
