BQ24172: Status of Q3 when battery is discharged

Part Number: BQ24172

Hello,

When the battery depletes below a certain level, lets say ~3V. What state does the charger go into? I think this is sleep mode buts its unclear.

During sleep mode what is the status of Q3, is it off to disconnect the battery from the system? Leakage would be 15uA?

This is the configuration the customer intends to use:

  • Hello,

Please check out the VLOWV parameter. When the battery voltage is below this level, the BQ24172 applies the precharge current to the battery (10% fast charge). If the VLOWV threshold is not met within 30 minutes, the charger turns off and a FAULT is asserted on the status pin.

Sleep mode occurs when the SRN voltage is greater than AVCC. Please see Section 9.3.6 Power Up. Please note however, that Q3 has a body diode to the system. Nothing will prevent the battery from discharging through the body diode in the typical application above.

    Thanks,

    Mike Emanuel
