Replacing EM Relays by Back-to-Back MOSFET

Hi everyone,

I would like to replace a large number of EM relays by back-to-back MOSFET's. I need to find a solution with isolation. I have thought about optocoupler + gate driver with isolated supply, or isolated gate driver with isolated supply.

Is there any IC or idea on how to do this? The application is battery cell balancing similar to the figure but for 24 cells, the current should be 5A~10A. SSR's are very expensive for this current level, that's why I prefer to use discrete Si MOSFET's, thanks for your help.

  • Hi Sergio,

It is a pleasure to meet you. Thanks so much for joining E2E and posting your first question!

You are right, it can be a significant challenge to find an optimized solution in this type of situation. An isolated supply + isolated gate driver would be our best solution today. We also have an exciting device in development that would solve this problem and we would love to discuss it with you in more detail. Is it ok if we connect with you via your myTI account email?

    Sincerely,

  • Hi Alex,

Pleasure to meet you too. Thank you for replying.

I have received the email about the device in development and I am looking forward to its release.

    Best regards,

    Sergio Fernandez.
