We have received this inquiry from our customer.

Hi, I have a problem when using bq27542 chip with MCU to read value from chemistry ID and cycle register.
when battery cell is disconnected from the bq27542 chip, I'm very confused that the chemistry ID and cycle value both are 0. Could you help to explain the reason?

Hello Michelle,

The chip is powered by the battery. It will not respond if there is no power.

Hi Shirish,

I agree with you, but MCU could still read value from bq chip during charging. In contrast, bqStudio couldn't read value from the chip during charging.

Hello Michelle,

We don't know the behavior of MCU code, so cannot comment on that. If bqStudio is unable to read, then we know that there is a problem. You may apply power using a power supply and bqStudio should be able to read. Chargers may not always provide power if there is no battery.
