LM5181-Q1: Quiscent current Clarification

Part Number: LM5181-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5181

Regarding Input Current . for application requiring direct connection to battery supply where low quiescent current is key.  The datasheet specifies ACTIVE_BIAS as 40µA , where as active current is 350µA. Does this means that when ACTIVE - BIAS is used the total current ( Q-Current ) will be 40 µA or it means total Current consumed by LM5181-Q1 if ACTIVE_ BIAS used will be 350µA + 40µA. please Clarify

Thank You

  • Hi Anshul,

The LM5181 has an external bias supply feature that reduces input quiescent current and increases efficiency. When the voltage at SS/BIAS exceeds a rising threshold of 5.5 V, bias power for the internal LDO regulator can be derived from an external voltage source. So when external bias is applied, the active quiescent current will be as low as 40uA. You can refer to datasheet section 8.3.7 for the details.
