Further information for anyone that has to recover from a failed U11 and also related to this thread:

At this time I was unable to find stock of the MCU so my solution was to buy the LaunchPad for the MCU from the TI store and (with some https://www.chipquik.com/store/index.php?cPath=200) I was able to move the MCU off the LaunchPad and across onto the EVM.
Because the MCU had code for the LaunchPad, the Updater would not recognise it; even with the -s option. I read that the MCU has a pin to force it into the USB BSL firmware and, sure enough, the EVM designers had bought this out to J27. Installed link, repowered and ran Updater, removed link and repowered and the EVM was running again.
So this is a way to get the EVM repaired and may be useful in these "interesting times".
