TPS62170: Vout max question

Part Number: TPS62170
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62160, TPS62125

For the TPS62170 (and also the TPS62160) , the vout max is listed as 6V. What is driving this limitation? Is there a work-around to get 9V output (with say, 12V input)?

The device is similar to the TPS62125 which has a higher output rating (up to 10V). We are looking for a pin compatible replacement to that device due to supply constraints.

  • Hello Steve,

The limitation is caused by the absolute maximum rating for the VOS pin. Since it is rated at 7V max (and tied to the output voltage), the device may become damaged above this value.

I haven't heard of any workaround using the TPS62170/60 to get 9V because the VOS pin is critical in the feedback loop of the converter.

The Wide Vin buck converters may have more selection to get 9Vout, but don't think there are any pin2pin with TPS62125.

    Thanks,

    Joseph
