TPS5450: Can I use Multiple Ceramic output capacitors instead of single electrolytic.

I am designing a 12V to 5V converter using TPS5450 and I was referring the TPS5450 EVM for that. The output capacitor using in the TPS5450 EVM is a 330uF Electrolytic with ESR 35mE.

I am planning to use 7 nos of 47uf ceramic capacitors along with a 0.01uF ceramic capacitor in my output section of TPS5450. I hope this will reduce the ESR and will improve the performance of the Buck.

Please let me know if anyone have any concern on this.

yes, both kind could be used with the same voltage , capacity and package size.

Hi Elena ,

In my TPS5450 design i plan to use only the 7nos of 47uF cap and one .01 uf cap.

I can use same voltage rating of the 330uF capacitor used in EVM but package size will be different.

Hope this is okay
