BQ76942: Recommended USB to SPI module for development?

Hi Folks,

Do you happen to have a favorite module to connect a PC to a BQ7694204 (SPI version) based board? We have plenty of USB - I2C modules but since we can only obtain the SPI version (BQ7694204PFBR) we need help. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Richard,

We have only used the EV2400 (https://www.ti.com/tool/EV2400 ) for this purpose, but this is mostly for using the BQStudio software. The EV2400 circuit is also included as part of the BQ76942EVM, so no need to order a separate module.

Total Phase also makes a Beagle module that can communicate in SPI and I2C. I have not tried it, but it might be worth looking into.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the info but that brings up another question. You mention the TI EV2400 but looking at the datasheet it appears to only use the I2C or SMBus connections. The only version of the BQ76942 that is available is the SPI version. So my question is can the EV2400 still be used with the SPI version of the 76942?

We added SPI capability to the EV2400 when the BQ769x2 family was released. I understand it is difficult to get hold of parts these days, but I recommend the I2C version if both options were available. It is a little easier to learn and it allows block writes and reads.
