TPS2378: TPS2378DDA powered from a power source

Part Number: TPS2378

Hi TI,

I have designed a product with the TPS2378DDA that is in production.
For production testing I have indicated to supply the PoE input with 48V from a power supply.
Will the TPS2378DDA work correctly if we supply it from a power supply?

Thank yuo very much.

  • Hello,

Yes if you use 48V directly on PoE input it should work. That is how we often test it in the lab, we have a CAT5 ethernet wire that we split apart and have banana jack inputs on each pairset.

The only thing to watch out for is hotplugging the 48V. I do not suggest having the power supplies at 48V and then directly connecting it. We either slowly ramp up voltage (by hand) or use a power supply with a limiting output.

If 48V is already turned on and then connected directly it could spark and cause a current surge.
