BQ27421-G1: calibration class parameters changed during learning cycle

Part Number: BQ27421-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hello,

when I'm running a successful learning cycle with the bq27421 EVM and bqstudio using a 230mAh battery the parameters in calibration class get changed. This is not a problem for Int Temp Offset, Pack V Offset, CC Offset that will be updated during automatic calibration (CCA) in the final hardware. However Board Offset, CC Cal Temp, CC Gain and CC Delta parameters are changed also and represent the values from  bq27421 EVM and not from the final hardware, So if I load the so generated golden image to the final hardware I have wrong values for this parameters in the final hardware. How should I handle this?

The values in the golden Image are:

Calibration,"Data","Board Offset","1","Counts"
Calibration,"Data","Int Temp Offset","0.0","°C"
Calibration,"Data","Pack V Offset","0","mV"
Calibration,"CC Cal","CC Offset","1","Counts"
Calibration,"CC Cal","CC Cal Temp","302.6","°K"
Calibration,"CC Cal","CC Gain","0.3418","Num"
Calibration,"CC Cal","CC Delta","407744.9063","Num"
Calibration,"Current","Deadband","2","mA"

CC Gain and CC Delta are very different from the default values and I suppose they will give wrong current readings.

Regards

Nikolaus

  • Hello Nikolaus,

The EVM hardware and final hardware are different, so calibration for one is not suitable for the other. I recommend that you calibrate the final hardware and then take a golden image from that. I believe the proper method specified is to take an average value and program it.
