LMR14006: Specifications for freewheeling diode

Are there any recommendations for selecting the freewheeling diode other than max voltage and forward current? I am especially interested in any requirements for reverse recovery time?

I have an existing design that uses a ZHCS400 diode and am finding that this part fails after an extended period of operation (about 1 year). I suspect that I need to select a diode that can handle a higher forward current but want to be sure of other specs as well.

Hello,

I would also consider taking into account the junction temperature of the diode based on its expected power dissipation and junction to ambient thermal resistance. Elevated junction temperatures can significantly reduce the average lifetime of a semiconducting device so it is important to make sure that these devices stay as cool as possible.
