TPS7A4501-SP: TPS7A4501-SP

Part Number: TPS7A4501-SP

Can two of these units be used in parallel?  Specifically, if two of these units have their inputs tied to different sources (same ground), and their outputs are tied together, will they work properly?

  • Richard,

It is possible to parallel LDOs.  However, it is not as simple as just tying the outputs together due to mismatches in feedback resistors and small differences in feedback reference voltages.

This TI Design shows paralleling multiple LDOs to increase current capability using ballast resistors.  https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/tiducs7

The same concept of the ballast resistor can be applied to the TPS7A4501 to achieve something similar.

There are other methods that can be used to adjust the feedback voltage with an op-amp to achieve better matching/sharing between the LDOs.   I do not have direct reference to one, but I can check to see if I can locate some information on this that may be helpful and reply back.
