TPS65381A-Q1: Mosfet and Power Inductor Warming Up

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1

Hi,

The TPS connection used in our circuit diagram is as follows. In this case, heating was observed in Mosfet and power inducator. When the Vcc(Core) line current value was monitored with a multimeter, it was seen that it was 170mA. Can you help with the reason for the heating in the mosfet and power inducator?

Hava a good day..

  • Hello,

Can you clarify how much the inductor and FET are being heated? The FET will heat during use because it is acting as an LDO and LDOs will heat up during normal use.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Layne,

Thanks for your message. Temperature values measured from PCB:

    Ambient Temperature: 28 C (*)
    PCB General Temperature: 40 C (*)
    Power Inducator Temperature: 47 C (*)
    Mosfet Temperature: 62 C (*)
(*): Measurements were taken after 1 hour of study.

I would appreciate it if you would comment on the health status of the system within the scope of this information.

  • Hello,

Can you provide some images of the layout for the board and the current draw on all of the rails of the board? Layout can and will play a large factor in thermal performance of a board.

    Best regards,

    Layne J

  • Sorry for answering you late. I can't share the layout image of the project, but I take into account your opinion and share information with related engineer friends. I will try to share when the result of the review is clear.

    Thanks for your interest..
