TPS1H100-Q1: The meaning of the spec "Reverse current on GND"

Part Number: TPS1H100-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS27S100,

Hi Experts,

Could you please explain what below spec stand for?

We also want to know below for TPS27S100A and the differences with above spec.

Regards,

Uchikoshi

  • Hi Uchikoshi-san,

The spec here is mainly for the situation when you have a short-to-battery event happens, and the current flows backwards. Here you see the current will flow from the GND pin, and can potentially damage the device. The spec here is for Rgnd selection, so that when such situation happens, the maximum current will not exceed the device rating. For example, for TPS1H100, you can design the Rgnd around the 20mA spec. Alternatively, you can use a blocking diode on the input. However, this will cause a voltage drop at the output. You can find more information on section 7.3.4.9.

  • Hi Yichi,

Thank you for your explanation. I understood this spec meaning.

But I still cannot understand what the max value of  "Reverse current on GND" stand for. Could you please explain it?

The max value is 20mA for TPS1H100-Q1 and 100mA for TPS27S100. Where does this difference come from?

    Regards,

    Uchikoshi

  • Hi Uchikoshi-san,

I'm contacting the systems team to see if they have insights on the differences. I will get back to you once I hear back from them.

    Regards,

    Yichi

  • Hi Yichi,

Sorry for pushing you. Can you get any information?

Also, do you have any concern or note to use TPS1H100 instead of TPS27S100 due to supply shortage?

    Regards,

    Uchikoshi

  • Hi Uchikoshi-san,

Sorry I do not have a definitive answer for you in terms of why they are different. I will keep following up and let you know once there's an an update.

However, for now please follow the datasheet for each device for the maximum value.

TPS1H100 and TPS27S100 should be interchangeable and I do think you can use one to replace another in case of shortage.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

    Regards,

    Yichi
