BQ25713: i am working in bq25713 charger controller

Part Number: BQ25713

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with BQ25713. Please see below his query for your reference. Thank you very much.

i am working in bq25713 charger controller

1.how i will know battery is charging?

2.how i will know battery is fully charged?

in page number 31 of data sheet of bq25713,it has written ,when battery is ful ,host has to terminate the charge,is it mandatory? how host will know thatbattery has fully charged

what are the mandatory pre setting need to be done, while charging ,like which resistor need to program ,while charging a battery and whats the work of prochot signal ,

 Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

    1. They can utilize ADC of the charger or the gauge/protector/monitor that they are using in their system to measure battery current.
    2. They can utilize ADC of the charger or the gauge/protector/monitor that they are using in their system to measure battery voltage.

For page 31 questions, please refer to question 1 and 2. The host need to monitor system conditions and change charger settings accordingly. PROCHOT is an active low open drain output of processor hot indicator.

Please refer to the datasheet and the EVM to learn more about charger operation.

Thanks and I hope this helps,

  • Hi Peng,

What do you mean by system conditions and change charger settings, can you ellaborate?exactly which resistor changes you are talking about?

    Thanks,

    smruti

  • Hi Smruti,

The charger is a mixed signal device and therefore has quite a bit of digital registers to control its features. BQ25713 by itself cannot start a charge cycle and requires CPU communication through I2C to start the charging process. Therefore, the CPU needs to determine when and how much to charge the battery under different operating conditions of your system. You would also need the CPU to change the register settings to achieve certain functionalities.

The EVM contains many resistors. Most, if not all of them, are necessary for the charger to work and I cannot possibly explain all these features in written words. Please refer to the datasheet and EVM to see what external hardware (includes resistors) you need to get BQ25713 to work.
