BQ40Z50-R1: Device only communicate with 4 cells connected on first use

Hi,

I'm developing a 2s3p pack using the BQ40z50-R1. I'm using a BQ40z50EVM to preliminary tests. In my first test I was trying to connect the EVM with the BQStudio using a EV2400 and 2 cells in series, but the Bqstudio accuses that was no device connected. I was only able to communicate with the EVM using 4cells in series. After that, I changed the DA config to work with 2 cells and now everything is working properly.

I wonder if I need to leave connections on my PCB project to connect a 4s pack during the first BQ40z50 communication with the BQStudio or if I had bad luck with this EVM and the ICs in general can communicate with the BQStudio using a 2s pack since the first connection.

Hi Shirish. Yes, this works after DA config modification. I would like to know if its supose to works even on a new device or if in my first connection with the BQStudio I need a 4s pack to wake the device. Thanks in advance.

Hello Patrick,

Once you connect the unused cells, there should be communication even with a new device. The 4 cell setting may result in error flags being set. Can you verify by setting to 4 cells and trying? You can connect PACK+ to VC4 to wake it for communication.
