BQ78350: CEDV SC bit independent vs smart charger

Part Number: BQ78350

Hi,

What constitutes a SMART charger for the purposes of this control bit?

I can't find anything detailing it any further than this:

SC (Bit 4): This bit enables learning cycle optimization for a Smart Charger or independent charge.
1 = Learning cycle optimized for independent charger
0 = Learning cycle optimized for Smart Charger (default)

Regards
Phil

  • Hi Phil,

A smart charger will read the ChargingVoltage() and ChargingCurrent() from the BQ78350 (see Chapter 5 of the TRM to see a full description for how these parameters are determined). If your charger adjust charging voltage and current according to the gauge recommendations, then it is a smart charger.

    Best regards,

    Matt
