UCC28180: 120VAC input, 300V DC output, 1800W

Hi,

My customer is using UCC28180 for a new design: 120VAC input ,300V DC output, 1800W, PWM 5Khz. please kindly suggest if UCC28180 is suitable one.

BTW, they met two design questions:

1.the external components of ICOMP and VCOMP is diffcult to caluate, do you have suggestion how to easy to get these values?

2.according to datasheet,VCOMP is 3V, but in M1 calulation , the value used is 2.45V, they want to know how this 2.45V come from?

Hi Mr Tang,

the UCC28180 can support minimum frequency at 18kHz that already listed in the datasheet.

I suppose UCC28180 is not suitable, and there is no other controller can meet such low frequency in HVC product line.

Thanks for pointing this out. if ignoring the 5Khz, what would be your recommendation?

Hi Mr Tang,

without 5kHz limitation, UCC28180 is suitable for it.

and I suggest you can follow the excel calculator to get the external circuit value, it is the easiest way for you to study this part.

for reference design, ti website has PMP7840 which is 2kw using UCC28180.

Mr. Tang, your question regarding Vcomp = 2.45 in eq (85), that does appear to be an error (typo). But also notice that the correct value based on Vcomp = 3.0 (M1 = 0.538) was used in eq (90) and beyond, so the remainder of the calculations are correct.
