TPS1H100-Q1: about operating current

Part Number: TPS1H100-Q1

Hello team,

I got a question about the operating current condition of TPS1H100-Q1. Can you answer the following?

The datasheet specifies that the recommended operating current is 4A, although the current limit can be set up to 7A externally.

However, in an application the load (display) connected to TPS1H100-Q1  needs approximately 5.6A for 10sec at the startup, and then it’s saturated to 2A.

Is TPS1H100-Q1 okay for the condition of 5.6A for 10sec without reliable issue?

Thanks,

Sam Lee

  • Hi Sam,

The major concern here is the thermal. As long as it doesn't hit thermal shutdown within 10s then it should be okay. We have PSPICE model that includes a thermal model as well. You can simulate it and see if it will hit the thermal shutdown.

However, a safer option will be use a smaller Rdson device.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Regards,

    Yichi
