TPS25221: Inrush current for USB2.0 specification

Part Number: TPS25221

Hi team,

Our customer is looking for USB SW which can meet the specification of USB 2.0 inrush current (less than 100ms and 50uC, Power up at < 100mA)

Can TPS25221 cover their requirements ? or if you have any recommendation, it would be helpful for us.

Thank you and best regards,

Michiaki

  • Hi Michiaki,

It depends on the specific application condition. The part has the soft start function. So it can reduce the inrush current .

You need to have a test based on you application scenario.

  • Hi Ziv,

In order to meet inrush current (within 100ms, 50uC and power up at < 100mA), what device you can recommend ?

I understand what you say it depends on their application but please kindly advise the recommendation device that can control inrush current at VBUS and switch.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Michiaki

  • Hi Michiaki,

For TPS25221, I think it's fine as it integrates soft start function. But I am not sure whether it can meet your requirement or not. You can have a try on EVM boards. It's the first time I heard the request from customer.

  • Hi Ziv,

In case of using TPS25221 at peripheral side, customer can configure 100mA for current limit at connection and then can switch to 500mA with R1 and R2 in figure 25 ?

Can the solution cover the USB2.0 inrush current specification ?

(Less than 50uC for inrush current within 100ms)

    Thank you and best regards,

    Michiaki

  • Hi Michiaki,

Where is the current you test? Input, output(before output cap), output(after output cap)?

As you set 100mA current limit, the circuit will current limit before you switch to the second level Ios. Is that fine?

  • Hi Ziv,

I am not familiar with USB2.0 specification but the below site would be reference for you.

And I will schematic they are considering offline.

    Thank you and best regards,
