BQ4050: bq4050 issue

Part Number: BQ4050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, GPCCEDV

We are testing bq4050 board. One issue we noticed is that when we keep bq4050 without any load or charger overnite, its CHG and DSG fets gets automatically turn off and no safety/PF flag is set.

But if we keep on logging by EV2400 fets doesnt get off. Seems like bq4050 turn off fet after certain amount of inactivity.

Attached is the gg file and log file. Can you help us, we want fets to turn off in case of safety/PF issue only.

Also where we can description of these registers? in TRM I didnt find or I missed?

Why FCC is increasing the remaining capacity? Our battery is 4S2P total 5200mAH.   We also set FCC_limit in data flash still it increases. We want that our remaining and FCC should be in range of 0-5200mAh  when battery goes from empty to full charge.

  • Hi Mec Dev,

It sounds like your gauge might be going into sleep mode. Which registers do you want a description for? They should all be in the TRM.

Did you already use GPCCEDV tool to obtain your CEDV parameters? Have you followed the steps outlined in section 6.3 Capacity Learning (FCC Update) and Qualified Discharge in the TRM?

    Best,

    Jessica

  • Hi Jessica,

    1. Yes seems like gauge going into sleep mode. But as you can in gg file we already set gauge to keep fets on.

    2. We need register bit description of these:

    3. Actually we havent used GPCCEDV tool, since our it need reading at 5,30 & 50C, we dont have temeprature room. We are more relying on gauge itself.  We dont need much accracy in actually.

    4. Another thing is FCC increasing the design capacity. Although we already set FCC_limit bit here. Shouldn't this bit limtis FCC ever increasing beyong design capacity?

  • Hello Mec,

In your screenshots it looks like the FETs are enabled, do they become enabled when you start communication with the gauge?

You must set GAUGE_EN = 1 for any gauging predictions to be used, FCC should be capped tp design capacity if the FCC_LIMIT = 1.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
