TPS40170: Part selection in Webench

Hi,

When using Webench power designer and letting the application suggest solutions for a DC/DC 22-27 V in, 12V 10 A out, only a small selection (20) of parts show up. The TPS40170 never shows up although it can be used in Webench. Does this imply that TI wants to promote the other devices or that TPS40170 is (slowly) coming to EOL? And how many other devices am I missing?

Hello Haken

Please go to https://www.ti.com/product/TPS40170 and input your electrical requirements in the WEBENCH panel which is on the bottom of this product folder, then you can see the WEBENCH design using TPS40170.

hi,

your answer does NOT answer any of the two questions I put in the post. I have used TPS40170 for years and know that it can be used in Webwnch - but that was not my question.

It is not allowed for me to disclose TI business plan in public. Usually, TI changes device status to NRND before EOL

Hi Haken,

The LM5145 / LM5146 is now the preferred controller for up to 100V input applications. This is higher performance and lower cost than the TPS40170. The control architecture (voltage mode) is the same. In summary, there is no EOL or anything like that planned for the TPS40170, but we are recommending the LM5145 for new designs.
