TL431: TL431AQDBZR Dynamic Thermal Impedance and Peak Current Handling

Part Number: TL431

Hello,

I want to know if there is any dynamic thermal impedance information available for the TL431AQDBZR (all datasheet lists is static thermal impedance).  Also is there any information available regarding the TL431AQDBZR withstand of sinking currents of higher than 100mA for very short periods of time.

Regards,

Luke

  • Hi Luke,

Unfortunately, there is no dynamic thermal impedance data available.

Regarding the information for the sinking current into the cathode that is greater than 100mA, the ABS MAX table shows that the IKA continuous cathode current has a max limit of 150mA. Therefore, sinking more than 100mA for a very short periods of time is possible.  I would be more concern about the thermals of the package.

  • Hi Luke,

Just following up with you if you have any additional questions for me.  If not, please close thread by clicking on "resolved".  Thanks and have a good weekend!

  • Hi Ben,

I had a follow up question for the TL431AQDBZR.  Is there any part you can suggest that would provide similar functionality but be able to sink 300mA for a short period of time?  Based on my basic search, it looks like there aren't any shunt regulators available that can sink much more than 150mA.  I suppose we have to start looking at linear regulators or zener diodes if we want 300mA of sinking available?

    Regards,

    Luke

  • Hi Luke,

That is correct.  We do not have a shunt regulator that can sink more than 150mA.  An LDO will be your best bet.
