BQ40Z50: BQ40Z50 Remaining Capacity changes after temp cycle test

Part Number: BQ40Z50

Hello team,

One of my customer performed high temp storage test after full charge and get it back to room temp. As soon as it gets back to room temp, they started logging. They saw weird symptom that RSOC and remaining capacity was getting decreased and stopped at some point. Is it correct operation and expected behavior?

FYI, I've attached log file.

  • Hello Victor,

Storing fully charged batteries at high temperature causes battery capacity to drop permanently. The effect is similar to ageing. The gauge should detect this and adjust the capacity.

  • Hello Shirish,

Thanks for kind help. Can I ask some more detail explanation? Firstly, I'd like to know storing fully charged batteries at high temp causes battery capacity to drop permanently. According to below graph, Qmax and Quse is decreased. Do we have similar graph that explains your comments? I want to see some test result or graph as evidence of your explanation :)

One more question is that why only Remaining Capacity is decreased while FCC keeps same. According to your explanation, FCC should be decreased. Is it because Impedance Track couldn't calculate FCC yet?

  • Hello Victor,

FCC could be independent of QMax. Please check the TRM for information on whether FCC can change. Each parameter has a specific purpose, those details will be in the TRM
