TPS62827: Replacement IC for TPS62827

Part Number: TPS62827
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV62585

Hello,

Real new student here and probably asking a question that is naive.  I have a schematic I am hoping to build and it uses a TPS62827 IC.  I am hoping to solderall  the parts to my PCB and while the Resistors and Capacitors are I think within my soldering capability I am quite sure that soldering the TPS62827 6 pins in the Vson package will be nearly imposssible for me.  Is there any other TI IC that might perform the same or similar functions to TPS62827 but in a larger and perhaps more hand soldering friendly package?

Hope someone can advise or at  least set me straight on my question

  • Hello Leslie,

Did you have a look at this technical article ?

    https://e2e.ti.com/blogs_/b/powerhouse/posts/qfn-soldering-tips-and-tricks

For a more friendly package you can have a look at the TLV62585, DRL package. This would be easier for you to solder.

TLV62585 is only 3A, we have no extended leads package which supports more than 3A at this point.

Let me know if I can further help you.

    Thanks a lot!

    Regards,
    Dorian

  • Thank you Dorian,

That certainly looks like a suitable alternative and maybe a little more solder friendly for my skills.  I will certainly have a look at the link you sent about soldering and hopefully I can learn to manage these small IC components so again thank you.

I will have a close look at the Data sheet for the IC but at first glance it looks like it should pretty much slot in to my design without changes from the schematic using the TL62827 IC.

I have had a brief look at the availability of the TLV62585 and it seems to be on order at places like Mouser but someway off before they expect delivery with the TI online order system saying the same thing.  I may be able to find someone who has stock and as I only 5 of them at this stage I may be lucky but it sounds like they are a few months away at the moment.

In regard to the amperage the current will hopefully never exceed 1amp so 3 amp for the tlv62585 is just fine.

    Best regards

    Les
