BQ27510-G3: BQ27510-G3 Learning cycle: Upadate status is not changing after charging and discharging process.

Part Number: BQ27510-G3

Hello,

I have a question regarding the UPDATE STATUS in the OCV table. I have performed Charging and Discharging but after the cell relaxation, update status has not change. I have set the parameters as follow:
1. Battery voltage: 3.7V
2. Battery capaticy: 250mAh
3. Max. Battery charge current: 250mA
4. Charging voltage: 4.2V
5. Taper current: 45mA
6. Quit current: 5 mA

Please refer the attached log file.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Janhavi,

Has your update status changed at all or just not during cell relaxation? Based on the log you included, it looks like your current is 0 the whole time. Also, if you have not already, please refer to the Achieving The Successful Learning Cycle app note.

    Jessica

  • Hello Jessica,

Thank you for the application note.

The update status is not changing at all even though  i)FC set after full charge and cleared after relaxation, ii)OCV_GD is set. The log data which I have sent you was recorded during the relaxation of the battery therefore current is 0.

During leraning cycle, all the register bits are set and cleared as per the application note but still the update status is not changing.

  • Hi Janhavi,

Can you please send me a log of your full learning cycle? Update status  did not change to 0x04 when you first enabled Impedance Track and sent the reset command?

    Jessica

  • Hello Jessica,

Exactly the update staus didn't change after IT enable and RESET. Also in the application note (SLUA903) states that, the valid OCV reading occurs when the dV/dt of the battery is < 4 µV/s. How to achieve this small voltage ? I checked my log files but it has only 1mv voltage.

    Please find attached log files.

  • Hi Janhavi,

You do not need to achieve a small voltage, just a small change in voltage over a period of time. In other words, you need to let the battery rest and keep the voltage constant over a period of time. If your battery is charged this will typically take 2 hours and if your battery is discharged is will take about 5 hours.

  • Hello Jessica,

Thank you for your explanation. I have performed discharging and charging with 5 and 2 hours relaxtion time respectively, during this  OCV_GD register was set. I have few questions regarding the Update status in OCV table.

i)At What time the update status will change from 0 to 1?  ii) As we are using standard chemisty ID, is it possible that because of the wrong chemical ID the update status is not changing?

     Regards,

    Janhavi Rane

  • Hi Janhavi,

I don't think the chemID would cause this; however, you should update your chemID before proceeding with your learning cycle. Using the default chemID instead of the optimized chemID for your battery will cause a lot of problems later in your learning cycle and with battery gauging in general.

  • Hello Jessica,

Thank you for your reply. Now I performed learning cycle with BQ27510-G3 EVM board and after relaxing the battery for 2 hours (after charging) my Update status 1 has changed to 01 but Update status 0 remained 00. What is the difference between Update status 0 and Update status 1?  Is it correct if any of the update status change or both should change?

    Please refer the attached image.
