BQ34Z100: Creating Golden Image Reset Estimated Capacity

I was using Battery Management Studio to create golden images for a Fuel Gauge that was calibrated and showing a good estimated capacity. Immediately after the golden image was created the estimated capacity went from 40% to 0%.

Why is that? Looks like I will need to cycle the battery again, which is frustrating, but also does this mean the golden image will not be valid and I will need to do learning cycles on batteries that are loaded with those golden images? Learning cycles are incredibly time consuming in production for an 8S battery.

Also in production I am using the .df.fs golden image. I'm unclear if that contains all the information from the learning cycle. I know it covers the other calibration data.

I've been having an issue where the 8S battery is showing 0% at 27V and I've been trying to get them to show 0% at 24V.

Hello Matthew,

Can you share a log of the jump occurring along with your .gg file so we can look at your parameter settings? What battery chemistry is being used?

Usually when we get SoC jumps it means the battery chemistry ID is not a good match or some other outside influence like a reset occurred.

I've attached the csv file but removed a few items (company, keys, etc).

Unfortunately I wasnt actively logging data when it occurred. The SoC was consistent until I generated the golden files then suddenly it jumped from 40% to 0%. I suspect bqstudio issued a reset I just dont understand why. I am using Lithion Ion. Specifically LG MJ1 18650 cells.

Hello Matthew,

Has this occurred multiple times? The BQ34Z100 uses voltage correlation when the cells are at rest, if the new golden file is updated the gauge will run a new simulation based on the voltage at that time. If the cells are not steady state the SoC may jump.

I havent tried it multiple times. But in this case I didnt load the GI onto the unit I was backing it up. Seems to me there's a bug with battery management studio.

Hello Matthew,

Sometimes it takes bqStudio a second to update values, if the jump is not visible in the log it may just be some lag in the GUI.
