TPS92518: Will this work for single LEDs? (Vf = 2.1V)

Part Number: TPS92518
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3409, TPS92515

Hello,

I have an application whereby we need to drive a high brightness red LED (Vf = 2.1V) at up to 1A. Input voltage was planned to be 24V but we also have 12V rail and 48V rail available if that is better.

We need the analog dimming because a photo diode is measuring reflected light from the sample that the LED is illuminating. Low flicker is needed.

Will the TPS92518 work for this application? If not do you have a part that you would recommend instead?

Thanks,

Derek

P.S. part needs to be in stock somewhere in the world so we can buy it.

  • Hello Derek,

This part will work.  The lower input voltage is better for this application.  The design has to take into account the minimum on-time of the device when calculating switching frequency.

Other parts that operate similar are the TPS92515/TPS92515A and the LM3409.

    Best Regards,
