ULN2003AI: Loading analysis requirement

Part Number: ULN2003AI

Hi,

Hi, I am using the Darlington array IC -ULN2003AIPW for the LED driving in our module.

I want to know ULN2003AIPW can drive by using LVTLL inputs.

I am using the CPLD- ICE40UP5K-SG48I for driving the ULN2003AIPW IC.

As this CPLD VCIO voltage level is LVTTL, whether this can drive the ULN2003AIPW IC base.

CPLD - VOL MAX-0.4V and VOH MIN - 2.9V , IOL-8mA and IOH max- -8mA.

  • Hello,

The ULN2003AI can work with your conditions but there is only one slight concern. The input current you've listed will work which you can see in figure 8 in the datasheet. With a 2.9V min you could potentially see issues if your output current is at 300 mA and above. We can only guarantee operation at an output current of 300 mA at 3V. If your load current is under 300 mA then it's not a concern.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Is the above details you have mentioned is for only one channel right (One NPN Darlington pairs out of seven)?

And In the Figure 8 in the datasheet is mentioning about the Minimum Output Current vs Input Current. How can we calculate the Input current?

  • Hello,

You're welcome! Yes the details I've mentioned are for one channel.

There isn't a defined equation in the datasheet; However, It's linear so you can figure out the values you want based on your parameters.
