LM2936: Maximum load capacitance

Part Number: LM2936

Hi Team,

We are using LM2936M-5.0 in our device. We are connected 10uF decoupling capacitor at output side also we have connected 1F supercapacitor without any series resistor(It is parallel to 10uF. May I know maximum recommended output capacitance for this part. We are facing sudden dip at supercap sometime. 

Note: We have series resistor after super capacitor.

    Hi Raj,

    The total ESR of the output capacitance network must be between 0.3 and 8 ohms. It is unclear from your post your total output ESR on the capacitors.

    Per the datasheet section 8.2.2.1.1 "This value may be increased without limit. Larger values of output capacitance will give improved transient response."

    However having 1F is very large output capacitance, and may cause concerns with reverse current, I will talk to the designers to see if there are further concerns with your configuration, I will get back to you with any new information that I gather.
