[Battery Charger IC] Battery Charger IC recommendation inquiry

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25619, BQ25618, TPS2121, BQ25672, BQ24160

Hi, TI Support Team

I have received inquiries from customers for recommending battery charger ICs with the following specs.

- Application: WIFI WEB-CAM (DC input and wireless charging (10W) possible model)

- DC INPUT : 5V/9V

- Battery type: Li-Polymer (3.7V, 1000mAh)

- Number of battery cells: 1CELL

Please recommend applicable products.

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hi MJ,

BQ25618 or BQ25619 are 1.5A chargers.  If input MUX is needed to switch between adapter and wireless input, I recommend TPS2121 in front of charger.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi, Jeff

Can the BQ25618/619 input the wireless charging input and the DC adapter input at the same time without switching the input voltage?

For reference, it seems that switching of the input voltage is not required in the case of the BQ25672.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    MJ

  • Hi MJ,

No.  That is why I recommend TP2121 MUX in front of BQ2561X.

Switching inputs is still required by BQ25672.  The BQ25672 has 2 gate drivers to drive external back to back MOSFETs (i.e. 4 MOSFETs total) in order to MUX between the 2 inputs.

The only charger IC with internal MUX FETs is the older BQ24160 family.  It is less efficient and has fewer features than the BQ2561X or the BQ25672.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi, Jeff

    Thank you for reply.

Please recommend a FET component applicable to the input voltage switching of BQ25618/9 and BQ25672.

It seems that the EVM circuit is not applied to a separate switching part.

    Thanks.

    MJ

  • Hi, Jeff

Please check the additional inquiries received from customers.

I am trying to connect an adapter and an external device with USB type-C.

A high voltage input (9V/1.11A) must be applied to the charger IC or data communication with an external device is required through the data line.

    1. Can I share one data line?

    2. If you need to use it separately, please recommend a necessary device.

    3. If there is a reference circuit for the above case, please share it.

If the DC adapter and wireless charging input are input at the same time, you need to selectively change the input. Please recommend a swtiching IC that can

    be used.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    MJ

  • Hi MJ,

The D+/D- lines can be shared as the charger only uses them automatically during the first 2 seconds after power up.  After 2 seconds, the D+/D- pins become hi impedance.  If you want a USB switch, take a look at BQ25895EVM

    https://www.ti.com/tool/BQ25895EVM-664 which uses TS3USB221ARSER.

    Jeff
