BQ76930EVM: Cell - 19 and cell 20

Part Number: BQ76930EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01093

Dear TI Team,

I am using TIDA-01093 circuitry in my custom Design, , in which i had observed recently , that at times Cell-19 and 20 go like 5.0 volt and 0.12 volt respectiveli.

Earlier in my design it was not happening.

But in my custom design recent one it is frequent.

Also at times Upper AFE Temp sensor misbehaves similarly by giving garbage value or 4 ohm imedance instead of 10k ohm

Above is observed in upper afe only.

Thanks

Rohit

  • I have made use of Cell c20 and Cell-0  as Battery Ground for Key detect and charger detect logic while afe is in shut down stage.

  • Hi Rohit,

One cell low and one cell high is often a sign of a broken wire between them or intermittent shorted capacitor.  If the cell is draining look for the short. The resulting voltages will often sum to the total of 2 cells although the cells are measured sequentially, they are out of range of the accuracy specifications, and the ADC range will limit to less than 2 cell voltages (typically).

The temp sensor reporting a low voltage (resistance) could be reading while the value is still 0 shortly after reset, check the timing of when it occurs.  Another possibility  is a shorted thermistor/connection.  If you have a capacitor on the thermistor input to filter noise check for cracks/intermittent shorts.
