TPS22990: :

Part Number: TPS22990
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM25145

Good morning,

What would be the short circuit behavior of this IC?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best Regards,

Onur

  • Hello Onur,

This device does not have short circuit protection and will be damaged from a short circuit fault if no external short circuit protection is used. If you're looking for a device with the short circuit protection feature you can navigate to the load switch portfolio and sort by features.

  • Hi Kalin,

Thanks for the quick feedback. I have a 5V Switching supply on my circuitry with a short circuit protection kicks in when the load is above 6.8A. The output of this switching supply is connected to TPS22990 which is capable of delivering 10A.

When I short the output of TPS22990 and power the circuit up, I don't see any current driven from 5V switching supply and I see the output of the switching supply as 5V. This made me think, if there is a short protection circuit in the TPS22990.

Maybe I shouldn't just start Load switch output as shorted but I short it during operation to see if short circuit protection of the switching supply kicks in.

  • Hello Onur,

Can you please provide a waveform including Vin, Vout, Iout, and EN of the TPS22990?

If the device is enabled and this event happens the input voltage should drop. The only way I can see this event occurring is if the TPS22990 device is disabled.

  • Hi Kalin,

On monday I will go to the lab again.

1-) I will connect an external load to the output of TPS22990 and start increasing the load to see the behavior of my circuitry.

2-) I will short the output of the TPS22990 when the board is on and check if LM25145RGYR current limiter kicks in.

3-) I will short the output of the TPS22990 and check the behavior again.(this was my initial test)

I will share the results with you hopefully on monday.

Thanks a lot for the help

    Best regards

  • Hello Onur,

As I haven't heard from you in 18 days I assume you've figured out your issue. I will now close this thread.

  • Good morning, I did some tests and current limiter of LM25145 kicks in so I don't see an issue.
