TPS7B4253-Q1: TPS7B4253 package related V-ADJ(REF)

Part Number: TPS7B4253-Q1

Hi,

I am looking for voltage tracking LDO with smallest package to track down to 1.5V. Device supply voltage is 5V and output current will be under 150mA.

TPS7B4253 should be fine, but I prefer smaller SO8 package and unfortunately in datasheet it is specified for min 2V. Internal design for this device in both packages is identical, but lower voltage is specified for bigger package to provide better cooling, or they are different internally? Device in SO8 package can work in my setup down to 1.5V or not?

  • Hello,

The same die is being used in both packages. However, in the SO8 package the EN and ADJ pin are internally tied together. The minimum EN pin voltage at which the device turns on is 2V, hence the ADJ pin, and as a result the FB/OUT pins, cannot go below 2V in the SO8 package. The HTSSOP package has a dedicated EN pin, and hence the ADJ pin can go as low as 1.5V. Let us know if you have more questions. Thanks!

  • OK, it is clear now.

It is not a question, just my talk with myself... Why on package with 2 NC pins designers decide to tied EN and ADJ pins together, when pin 7 on SO8 is perfect location for EN function. And because of this my only option is 20-pin package with bunch of NC pins.

  • Hello,

This is a fairly old part which, I believe, was designed to compete with a device from a different company. Hence the pinout design could not be flexible. Thanks!
