BQ25060: Hot Temperature Shutoff Cycling On/Off

Part Number: BQ25060

During testing of BQ25060 chargers, it was noted that rising temperatures, towards the hot limit, would see the charger shutoff, then turn back on, cycling on and off several times as the temperature continued to rise.  It would finally shut off after about 5C more rise in temperature.

We have seen this on multiple parts.   Is this as designed? There is hysteresis listed in the spec, which I calculated to roughly 4C, which would lead me to think this should shutoff above a certain temperatue and not turn back on until the temperature had dropped appoximately 4C.  We are using 1% resistors.

  • Hi Matt,

Since there is hysteresis built into the comparator, I would expect to see the behavior you mentioned on the second paragraph where we trip and wait for the hysteresis condition to be met.

Can you share your schematic and also any plots you have had from the testing (would like to see current into battery and NTC voltage). Also do you see the battery heating significantly when charging or gnd voltage offset when charging?
