LMR38020: Inverting Buck Boost/Fly-buck-boost

Part Number: LMR38020
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5180, LM5161

Any concern with operating the LMR38020 as an inverting buck boost or fly-buck-boost?  I need to build a primary side regulated isolated converter and the FPWM version of LMR38020 looks like it would work nicely for this assuming the internal compensation is compatible.

Thoughts?

  • Hi Steve,

What's the Vin range and output power? can you also check LM5180 family which maybe better solution for isolated conversion?

  • Vin ~= 15V, Vout ~= 75V.  I'm looking at using Coilcraft Hexapath HP2 type configurable device ~10 uH and 1:5 turns ratio.  If I set the inverted voltage to ~-15V, I should be able to reflect ~75V to the secondary using the flybuck-boost topology.

LMR38020 is particular interesting because of the high Vin rating, which would make it much more bulletproof compared some of the other options, and it has some other nice features as well.

This particular application is for a high vibration environment, so I am restricted to leaded packages- LM5180 would be great, but it's in a WSON.

I'll look at LM5161 though, it seems to come in a leaded package.
