TLV1171: Vin LIMIT

Hi team,

I received a question below from my customer. Could you please help with the question below?

I was searching for a LDO with

  • Vin=5V,
  • Vout=1V2,
  • Iout=1A,
  • SOT223 package  

to use in a exiting design as a replacement .

 

The TLV1171 looks like a perfect fit. But during the test , I found an issue that the pre-step 5V (Vin for the tlv1171) has a overshoot by power up , the overshoot is around 610mV around 2mS.

 

According to the datasheet the Vin limit=6V. How critical is it in this situation?

  • Hi Yamaguchi-san,

    This LDO has an Absolute Max Vin voltage of 6V, so the device will not be damaged at 5.61V. 

    Note that many of the specs are specified to 5.5V, so technically during this transient the performance may be SLIGHTLY different than the EC Table shows.  However, any real changes to the specs during this overshoot will be extremely small since they are only 110mV above 5.5V and when the input comes back down to <=5.5V the device will certainly be within the EC Table specs.
