TPS2121: Design verification

Part Number: TPS2121

Hi,

I am using TPS2121RUXR  power mux IC. In the power mux, I will provide 3V3 for IN1 and 5V for IN2.

  I have set the priority PIN  PR1 = 2.495V    CP2 = 1.8V,

Once I set the above pin I would like to know which power pin will be selected?

Thanks

Pandian

  • Hello Pandian,

Since both PR1 and CP2 are greater than Vref the device is operating in xcomp mode. This will choose the supply based on the comparison of CP2 and PR1. When PR1 > CP2 then IN1 is prioritized, and when CP2 > PR1 IN2 is prioritized. Whenever either PR1 or CP2 drops below Vref the other supply will be prioritized. In your specific setup IN1 will be prioritized since PR1 > CP2.

If both PR1 and CP2(labeled as CP1 in your schematic) are tied to the same supply (VCC_USB) then the device will never switch to the second input and will prioritize IN1 until neither input is considered valid then will output HI-Z.

         Thanks for your Reply.

If IN1 is not connected. through which IN2 gets connected to VCC_MUX

    Thanks & Regards

  • Hello Pandian,

When CP2 > PR1 IN2 will get connected to VCC_MUX. In your case that voltage will be approximately 2.38V on IN1.
