I am considering replacing my existing diodes with the TPS2116 power switch MUX. I do not currently have the TPS2116 to test with. My current problem is I do not have the board space to add the resistors required to put the TPS2116 in Priority mode. I'm looking to clarify my understanding of the documentation and verify that my simplified design would still work as intended. I have a very simple circuit with two input power supplies ( 4.2V Li-Ion battery and/or 5V USB) feeding VIN1 and VIN2. one or both of the supplies can be connected at any time. For my use case, I do not care which input voltage is the primary or secondary. I just want the TPS2116 to switch to whatever VIN has the larger voltage. I will not have any GPIO's connected to the the circuit for controlling or getting status. Based on the truth table in the documentation, I plan on using the 3rd configuration. My intent is to tie MODE and PRI1 directly to Ground. I am not using ST pin for anything therefore will leave this floating or tied directed to ground. Based on this configuration, the truth table says that the switch would still send the higher of the two voltages to VOUT. I assume the only problem I would have is the chance that the device could switch back and forth rapidly between the inputs as there is no priority set if the input voltages were both the same. Would this design work as I expect? Attached is a schematic and documentation screenshot.
