BQ40Z80: Full Charge Capacity and Remaining Charge Capacity suddenly drop during dishcarge

Part Number: BQ40Z80

Hi,

I have a problem with FCC and RCC suddenly dropping when discharging the battery (12Ah) through my BMS using high current (19-22A). The Chem ID was acquired with a max deviation of 1.33%, the learning process was successful as indicated with LStatus() 0x6.

The golden file used is attached.

I was trying to determine if the BQ40Z80 chip would function normally if the discharge branch was not controlled by the BMS but instead, the battery is discharged whenever a load is present. BATT+ and PACK+ are connected with a wire. The plus of the discharge cable is connected to BATT+ and the minus to PACK- in order to measure discharge current. The ManufacturerAccess() DSG FET Toggle command was sent before discharging in order for the BQ chip to know that the battery was being discharged even though no FETs were being controlled.

Discharging was started at around 10Ah of the battery left and at 7546mAh, FCC dropped from 12147mAh to 4624mAh and RCC dropped to 0

The experiment was redone with a BMS that has its' DSG branch attached to the PCB together with the DSG FET. The results were similar, RCC dropped to 0 from 1993mAh and FCC dropped from 12154 to 10182mAh.

In both cases, FCC returned back to normal when discharge was terminated.

Log files for both experiments are attached.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
