Hi Bill,
Welcome to E2E!
Could you elaborate on what your mean by a salt spray test?
Best Regards,
Elizabeth
Specifically, could you clarify if there is a specific standard you are testing to or exactly what the test consists of?
Also, are you asking if we have done the test or whether we think the part should be able to pass the test?
Best Regards,
Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth,
I'd like to check if you had assessed the test. The solder ball size is only 0.15~0.25mm.
After the test, the solder joint may have crack off issue. I don't konw if TI had this expert assessments.
The test condition is 5% NaCl, 35 degre.C, 96hours.
Much apprieciate if you could share more commetns on it.
Bill
Hi Bill,
Do you know the specific standard this test refers to so that we can see if we support it?

Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth,
In my mind, the component should not be dropped off PCB after the salt spray test.
I don't know if the solder balls of SAC396 whether is reliabily populated on PCB.
Kindly let me know if you don't think this should be guaranteed, ie. the salt spray is not required for PCBA.

Hi Bill,
I am in communication with our packaging expert and he has let me know that we do not conduct salt atmosphere tests for this package, is that the test you are referring to?
If you are referring to the salt atmosphere test meant to test corrosion for mainly metallic coatings, it is not part of the qualification done on this package since the only metal exposed is the solder ball which has no finish layer.

Elizabeth
